The MWC Week 4 Review

As we are moving more and more towards in-conference games things are starting to become a little more clear in the Mountain West.  We are now 4 games into the season and good or bad, it is becoming harder for teams to hide who they really are.  So without further ado, let’s take a look at this weekend’s action.

It sure makes it tough to win football games when the other team gets to have more possessions than they should and this is becoming a problem for the Cougars.
In Coach Mendenhall’s first year as a head coach we addressed this issue every day in practice.  For the offense it was “Ball Security.”  For the defense it was Turnover Drills.  The focus on both sides of the ball being, Turnovers play a HUGE roll in games, especially against tough opponents.
BYU is 3-2 in their last 5 games and they given …

The MWC Week 3 Review

I came into the weekend confused and I came out of it not only confused, but bewildered.  As I sat down to watch the Utah v Oregon games yesterday I was torn on who to root for.  I really wanted the Ducks to take it to the Utes, but then I wanted the MWC to look good against the PAC 10, and I think I hate Oregon as much as I do Utah.  In the end, I once again realized that no part of me can ever root for …

First Look at the ‘Noles

First off, let me just say that our Defense better shut these guys up because there is nothing in sports I hate more than the Tomohawk Chop of the ‘Noles (and Braves).
OK onto the scouting report…Offensively their style is the same that has given BYU fits over the last 6 years.  For starters they have a running QB, and he is a good running QB too.  I have to think that FSU will try and incorporate Ponder into the game just as Washington used Jake Locker to be a huge …

The MWC Week 2 Review

With another week of football games under our belt we were able to see some interesting things play out in the conference, and I must say that for all the grief I got last week about CSU’s ranking, I feel pretty good about it heading into week 3.  Let’s take a look at what went on.
Air Force 13 (1-1) – Minnesota 20
The Falcons could not fly home with a win on this one.  In a well fought game, close game, AFA came up short in what would have …

First Impressions About the Win?

Just wanted to see what people thought about the beating BYU gave Tulane. Does the slow start concern anyone, or is it more important to finish the game?
Will the kick off problems continue or will they improve?
How about those young receivers?
Is the D legit or are they simple falling into good spots?
Let me know…..

Are we impressed with the BYU win in Louisiana?(surveys)

History of the Green Wave

I got a little curious last night as to why a team would name themselves the Green Wave.  Could it have something to do with a Hurricane? Or a Tidal Wave in the history of Louisiana?  I did some digging and came up with some interesting history on Tulane…
Tulane’s earliest athletic traditions are tied to its football team, which began playing in 1893.  In their early beginnings they were known to fans as the Greenies or Greenbacks and officially called The Olive and Blue.  In that first year of …

Biggest Concern the Cougars need to address this week?(polls)
The Oklahoma game was great but with Tulane hoping to leave a negative impression on BYU’s season what do the Cougars need to fix?

Tulane Green Wave!

OK Cougar fans, it is now Wednesday and I think it is time for us to shift our focus onto the Green Wave from Tulane.  Hopefully the Boys in Blue made that shift Monday morning, but since we don’t need to run drills or watch scout tape, I figure we should get a few extra days.
The OU win was incredible and has its place in history.  But it will be meaningless unless we take care of business in the SUPERDOME!
What another great stage for a great football game.  Two concerns …

This is rich!

Gresham, whose hope for a national championship was dashed in Dallas decided to opt for surgery -and the NFL draft. This guy has class written all over him. I wish he would just tell the truth and let the fans in Oklahoma know that he

First Hand Fan Perspective in Dallas…this is good!

The following is an email I received from a member of my softball team here in California who was on hand in Dallas to witness that great game.  It fired me up to read this.
“Oh yes…. I was there (cue music)ESPN radio AND all the commentators right outside the stadium -  they said on loud speakers right to our faces – ALL four of them – that Oklahoma was not only going to win…. but also beat the spread of 22 points. “It’s going to be a long day for Max Hall …

Aside from our Cougars, what other outsider will be breaking into the Big Dance?
As much as I hate to say it, it will be Boise State…again.  Boise State is not the team that used to rely on trick plays, confusion motion and funky formations to win ball games.  When they lined up against Oregon on Thursday night they played straight up football and beat the ducks into the ground!  After their success over the last few years Boise State is not having to rely on under-talented players, playing with …
