Why 11-2 Now Feels So Different

I had been wanting to write something that addresses our collective anger and disappointment over an 11-2 season for quite some time now.  I remember having these same feelings last year.  The big question is that in 2006 and 2007 we went 11-2 and felt like we were on top of the world.  Now going 11-2 is the most depressing thing there is.  How can that be?

Motivation? What is it? How do you do it?

This has been a debate for quite some time.  How do our coaches motivate the players?  Or how can they better motivate the players?  Or should the players just motivate themselves?  I will do my best to answer, but keep in mind, all people/athletes are different.

Speed and Max Hall, Neither Lost the Game

There have been two overarching themes to the comments from the game Saturday, BYU’s lack of team speed and Max Hall at QB.  I want to give you loyal fans a bit of a reality check, because although the passion you have for the team excites me, sometimes our view can be a little clouded by our present heartache.

BYU Defense…How good are they?

This weekend confirmed a suspicion that I have had for a little while, and it breaks my heart to say it…

I couldn’t take it anymore. The bleeding was profuse and I didn’t see it stopping. Man we blew two golden opportunities, at home, with the nation watching.
Where has BYU’s home field advantage gone? Did it really only take one loss to unwrap the past four years?
I don’t have much positive to say, and being that I normally try and talk about the “good things” I’m going to stop.
Please leave a comment and let me know if I missed anything in the fourth. I just couldn’t watch another minute.

All eyes on, Provo.

With the college game-day crew on hand, which team will Lee Corso pick? If past history counts for anything, Mr. Corso will don the Horned Frog hat. But I’m here to say, not so fast. While the Frogs are the best team BYU will have faced, they are by no means unbeatable.
Things I’m worried about:
Turnovers – There have been plenty and if the turnover bug hits Provo with the game-day crew it could be a long day for those wearing blue on Saturday.
Open field tackling – last year our tackling …

News flash, secondary #1 in tackles…BAD!

I’ve read some of the comments and looked at the stats, and yes it is never good for the secondary to lead the team in tackles. I am understanding to the fact that teams have had a higher tendency to throw the ball. Yet, even with teams spreading the ball like jiff to their receivers our leading tacklers should come from the interior of the defense.
The one shinning star that I don’t have a problem with is Andrew Rich. I fully encourage him to continue making plays at, near, around, …

The MWC Week 7 Review

This is my favorite time of year.  The non-conference games are out of the way and we get to witness the fight to the finish for the MWC teams as they battle on another for pride and the coveted championship.  This week answered some more questions as we pitted controversial teams against one another to see where the conference stacks up.

That game had it’s moments. That was one of those BYU–SDSU shoot-outs of old—you know the ones with eighty combined points and eight hundred combined total yardage.
I was encouraged by  SDSU and a little anxious for BYU with the meat of our schedule approaching.
I’m sure there are a few out there with some heat. Let it out…and be done with it.

Stop the run, win the game.

In the one loss to -a crappy- FSU team BYU allowed 313 yards rushing and made their QB look like the second coming of Nebraska’s Scott Frost. Since that game -and before that game also- the Cougars have been able to limit their opponents ground gains, forcing teams to use alternative methods in moving the ball. By alternative methods, I mean throwing the ball, which some teams have done successfully and others have done poorly.
For me it’s all about managing risk. If your team can stop the run the defensive …

Check out the AD!

I would like to draw specific attention to our new advertiser, Fillmore and Spencer. They are a prominent law firm which is headquartered in Provo with an additional office in Salt Lake City. The firm has a long and extensive list of clients in various fields such as: the computer/software, scientific and engineering fields as well as various commercial businesses. But don’t let the “big” name companies fool you, this group of lawyers “relishes assisting small and emerging business clients in their development and growth stages.”
