Play composed, or wild?

I think a few BYU fans were happy with the level of excitement the Cougars had on Saturday. For most fans it was refreshing to see the Cougars with a little bounce in their step, especially at home -where things became derailed in earlier weeks. While the fire and excitement was appreciated, are there negatives that come with that added swagger?
My concerns stem from earlier performances against FSU and TCU. Where I have no doubts about the teams preparation or level of intensity. No matter who you are as a …

Cougars are rolling.

Despite some sloppy play the Cougars lean on Pitta and George + Unga and come away with a big win. What struck me during the game is the difference in the top 3 teams in the conference and remaining team. I mean AFA isn’t a bad team, but they just couldn’t get a real momentum and couldn’t really push passed making the game close. Despite the Cougars attempt to open the door and allow them back in the game it was a solid win that preps them for a tough …

I have noticed some recent comments, specifically because of there colorful verbiage. So, hello Ute fans! I understand you didn’t like the picture, but you failed to notice that your running back is 5 yards into the endzone, so the play was long since over -the Utes seem to think BYU is the cheaper of the two team. I will say BYU has done their fair share of what might be construed as a cheap shot…but I haven’t seen it caught on film (like I posted earlier this week).
OK here’s …

AFA is always a tough game.

Air Force is always a difficult game. They have so many difficult plays to defend and they are one the few teams that play with as much effort as BYU -this could be attributed to the fact that they are in the military, or the fact that they are also undersized, and possible a little slower. You make the call. This years AFA team presents no small challenge. Calhoun has taken the Air Force Lightning Bolts and produced multiple bowl game appearances, eight and nine win seasons, and has come …

There are some crazy things happening this week and I think there are still a lot of Over AND Under rated teams out there.  So what I want to know is what 7-3 team do you think BYU should be ranked ahead of?

What 7-3 Team Should BYU Be Ranked Ahead Of?(polling)

I was looking through some of the pictures from the TCU vs. Utah game on Saturday night and I stumbled upon an interesting picture of one of Utah O-Lineman dishing out some cheapness.
The picture wasn’t interesting because of the guy running in for a score, or pointing, or anything like that. It was interesting because it captured the essence of a “Utah lineman”. Handing out a cheap, behind the ball, meaningless hit on a defender who has all but given up pursuing the running back into the end-zone.

BYU, still attracting everyone’s best game.

The Cougars survived an ugly fourth quarter and some wild kicking to progress towards another 11-2 season. I have to say it is always tough to play in Albuquerque and the Lobos brought the heat this morning. I don’t know what their coaching staff did, but the Lobos played with a new spirit. Hopefully the Lobos will have that same go gett’em attitude when they play TCU.
Hall had a solid day, not spectacular, but solid. Max’s “troubles” this morning were directly linked to the offenses inability to rush for any …

Why am I not very excited for this week.

I don’t know what it is but the New Mexico game has lost it’s luster. I guess I remember the defining moments that intersected with games against New Mexico. This years showdown is lining up to be a BBB,BBBB,BB,Beating. BYU comes in healthy and hungry after rolling through Laramie with a blow torch. New Mexico, hasn’t had the best of luck since hiring a new staff, and with pending lawsuits -and bullish tactics on the women’s soccer field, it’s going to be a tough Saturday for the Lobo nation.
The Lobo …

A Question?

How can BYU move to the next level? It seems like BYU has become a staple in the top 25 with wins over the bulk of their schedule, but how do they make the transition from good in a reasonably good conference to superior in the conference and even more noticeable on a national level?
It is a tough transition that BYU, Utah, and TCU are all in pursuit of obtaining. Utah has performed well in a couple of seasons but hasn’t shown the consistency to be recognized at the national …

That’s the only way could explain that one. Add in the fact that BYU’s offense looked very efficient. Max did a great job of spreading the ball around to different players. He also threw the ball on time and didn’t leave much time for the defensive line to get any pressure. Man, we missed this team last week. (But TCU is no WYO)
I was also impressed by the defenses tenacity throughout the game. They chased the Wyoming QB relentlessly and they put some big hits on ball carriers. That week …

New Mexico, how far you’ve fallen.

New Mexico’s problems just keep getting worse. First a coaches meeting goes all Tyson vs Hollyfield and than Ms. Lambert decides to try and pull a Lady Cougar soccer players head-off, by her pony tail. Although, it looked like the Lady Cougars started the whole mess, meow.
Those Lobos must be liv’in the thug life down their in Albuquerque.
Oh and for any fans traveling to the game this year…Please keep your heads on a swivel and if possible tuck your pony tails into your shirts. But hey the Lobo’s secondary might …

Playing on the Road in Laramie

For the fortunate few, they never have to take the trip to Laramie.  The silver lining is that at the most you only have to go twice.  I had the opportunity to go to Laramie my sophomore and senior year and it was quite different each time.  Here is my account on what it is like to play the Pokes in War Memorial Stadium…

Quinn on practice, we’re talking about PRACTICE…

Not the game, but practice…..oh, the famous words of Allen Iverson. Yet, to bring things into perspective Iverson is a freakishly talented professional athlete. I shouldn’t have to point out the differences between college athletes and professional athletes. They are not marginal.
I would like to take you back a few years. Bronco is a ambitious defensive coordinator and it is the Monday before we play Stanford in Palo Alto. The Cougars had just been handed a tough loss and Coach Mendenhall was eager to make a statement. That week -which …

Feed Unga, it’s been a week

With Harvey closing in on Mr. Curtis Brown’s all time rushing record, let’s feed the next all time leader. Not only is he closing in on the record he’s the Cougars best player -and the conferences best back. I know some are shaking their heads. Yes, the Cougars have talent at the tight end position, but their touches are minimized by down distance and situation. When is it a bad time to turn around give the ball to Harvey…except for maybe 3/4th and long? Who know maybe our Offensive Coordinators …

Wake up Cougar nation, it’s Wednesday.

Laramie, well nothing good can be said about Laramie -especially in November. Any other week I envy the chance to strap on the pads and helmet and mix it up one more time, but not this week.
Your pads and helmet become extremely uncomfortable as the air inside expands, leaving you even more irritable. Maybe that’s why the fans are so hostile in Laramie, I know I would be mad if I had to wade through 9 months of winter.
Regarding some of the crazy stories about the fans and heated pennies …
