A few thoughts on Tyrone Willingham…
September 4, 2008
I don’t know much about Tyrone, but what I do know is that he has a knack for coaching mediocre teams. His overall record is 76-76-1. With 13 years of head coaching experience, he has 6 winning records and 7 losing records. I think he is still riding the success he had at Stanford and Notre Dame where he went 8-4 overall and 7-1 in Pac-10 play, sending the Cardinals to the Rose Bowl. At ND he went 10-3 with another coaches recruits and since then it has been a steady downward spiral.
I have heard that he is an extremely bright man with great knowledge of the game. Yet, he must be finding it hard to get his players to respond to his motivation. A head coach would have a hard time motivating his players if he keeps telling them they are “rebuilding”, but 4 years later they are still a below .500 team. All I know is that he is going to hate BYU. We beat his Notre Dame team in Provo, which was a tough pill to swallow. Now he is all but knocked out on his feet and we just need to throw a wicked haymaker to send him to the mat. Sorry Tyrone, don’t take it personal.

That’s OK. Tyrone is one of only two coaches that left BYU off their top-25 rankings at the end of 2007.
Personally, I’m OK with making this personal…
Agreed. Not only that but today I read an article concerning the “controversial 1984 championship” where he was asked who should have been crowned. His response; “Obviously, Washington. Come On.”
He obviously does have something against BYU with a comment like that and his top 25 voting record. I hope we pound his team into the ground and that he’s fired by mid-season. He’s got enough money by now anyway that he’d be able to retire and never have to work again anyway. Good riddance.
Tyrone Willingham has had “issues” with BYU’s sponsoring institution for a long long time.
So has Rick Neuheisel, but I think he has gotten over it, Willingham on the other hand hasn’t.
Just two good reasons to dipense doses of humility in a violent manner; then help them up.
…I think Jammie Hill is about to be offered his job!
