The Oklahoma game was great but with Tulane hoping to leave a negative impression on BYU’s season what do the Cougars need to fix?

If all the “BYU has no chance” didn’t affect them going into the OU game, then the same resolve and focus should be there for the “Tulane doesn’t have a chance” talk. Time to key on cleaning up the execution.

I’d like Brian Kariya to get a lot of reps this week so that he hits the correct hole on every running play.

One of your choices should be to establish an offensive rhythm. BYU’s defense is what really shined against OU. Their offense came up big when it needed to but that is only one big drive for the entire game. BYU needs to put together a series of sustained drives this week, to not only beat Tulane but get themselves in sync and ready to roll against FSU.

What about the KICKING game?? Kicking it out of bounds at a critical moment? Not really surprised, due to his struggles during fall camp. I don’t think the staff should hesitate to pull him, if inconsistency continues. Your thoughts??

Good point on the kicking game. Special teams was terrible all night. The missed opportunity on the extra point due to the delay of game penalty, the fumbled punt return, and then the kickoff out of bounds. Man, BYU really did win despite a lot of errors. Hoping they can get the kinks worked out against Tulane. The offense and special teams will have to play much better to beat FSU. FSU looked really good, and really fast, despite losing to Miami.

Humility goes along way,and when the Cougs are focused all that other stuff falls in place
    Go COUGS

In all honesty I don’t know how I missed the kicking game. Maybe because it has been a problem for so many years, it just slipped my mind.

That out of bounds kick was the only thing he didn’t have to do, and well he did it. I guarantee Coach Lamb is all over his ness this week in practice. Mr. Payne won’t live that one down anytime soon.

Our new punter did a pretty banged up job though. I was impressed with that. I feel bad for Mitch, being Matt’s little brother. Matt was so dang good that I bet Mitch hears/feels it all the time. That would be difficult to deal with, but if he doesn’t improve soon, I’m sure the new guy will get the job.

    Quinn,

Side note. I talked to a certain coach that was up in the box with Coach Lamb, and to my surprise he said that Coach Lamb was very calm, and didn’t really react to the kick out of bounds. Very surprising. Maybe we are getting used to it, after it happened 2x in critical situations last year.

The kicking game is huge, especially if we can’t consistently hit field goals. A good kicker was the difference for the U of going undefeated and at least a 2 loss season last year. In my opinion if we don’t get the kicking game down, we’ll have some unnecessarily close games and maybe even some losses.
