There are some crazy things happening this week and I think there are still a lot of Over AND Under rated teams out there. So what I want to know is what 7-3 team do you think BYU should be ranked ahead of?

Stanford is playing some really good football. I mean they are not just upsetting teams, they are destroying ranked competition. I was happy to see them in the top 25 this week, and I think they should be even higher than Oregon after what they did to them and the Trojans.
USC is clearly struggling this year and we just may get our crack at the Trojans if we end up in the Vegas bowl again this year.
Oregon State, for sure
Miami after that
I voted USC. Their offense is so stagnant that I’m sure BYU’s D could handle them.
Miami would be by second and only other choice.
VT’s D is too good. They are underrated in my opinion.
Stanford is hot and they are killing good teams.
I don’t think BYU could stop Oregon State’s running game enough to win. That RB they have is awesome.
I totally agree with Gooch. Oregon State doesn’t belong in the top 25. Miami keeps losing.
Go Cougs!!
No Opinion today… It’s the lords day.
Definitely the USC trojans, I’ve been saying they are overrated all year.
I think with our ability, we are neck and neck with Miami. They did beat FSU, but barely, and with an extra loss, I think we deserve to be ahead of them.
Virgina Tech deserves it.
Oregon State MAYBE deserves lower 20s.
Unsure about Stanford (see my first comment.) I just don’t see the strength in the Pac-10 this year. I guess, honestly, the top 10 are now so solid, the rest of us hardly matter. This week is a big week for a lot of teams, I can’t wait!
I don’t know about these teams..I guess I would say Oregon State, but I think BYU is about where they belong right now. If they beat Utah, then I think they deserve a 14, 15, 16 type ranking.
I think the larger question is…should TCU play in the NC game? And the answer to that question is yes, yes, and yes. I think they are the best team in the country. They have now beaten three teams that are currently ranked. Florida has beaten one team (LSU), Alabama has beaten two (Va. Tech & LSU), and Texas has beaten one (Ok. State). Not only that, but these other teams have played schools like Florida Atlantic, Troy, Louisana Monroe, Chattanoga, so the argument that they play in the tough SEC and that they have challenging games every week, just doesn’t hold up.
I’d love to see TCU go against Florida. I think they would totally shut them down. We’ll see what happens, but I’m hoping that Kansas can pull the upset or Auburn can pull a miracle. Florida doesn’t even play anybody for the rest of the year other than Bama in the SEC title game, but that’s not going to help TCU.
Really, you think we would beat miami? It would be FSU and TCU all over again. The same with USC.
Dracos ,
your right on, pressure on th QB will inturupt any passing attack. Case in point: The OU game we got great pressure on the QB, all game long.
Zone blitz, sending a corner, SS blitz. Mix it up, but put the QB down. Hard.
We have not got pressure on any other QB on a regular basis.
Dracos,
your comments were on another thread.
But I still agree.
PS I think we are where we should be in the national polls.
Piazzaman,
Wyoming was the only other game where we had consistent pressure on the QB. There weren’t as many knock downs cause he’s a better runner than the OU QBs but he was on his definitely flushed and uncomfortable and we saw how that game turned out.
I think we should be ahead of several of them. They have better recruiting classes and supposed “better” athletes, so when they lay eggs like they’ve done (USC, and OSU in particular) we definitely should be given more credit. Popularity still means everything in this league apparently.
Nice to see we agree sometimes Pizzaman. I get tired of people criticizing our D for being “slow” or “mediocre” because the DB’s appear to get burned sometimes. But it is completely unfair for us to expect cover for 4 or 5 seconds each pass play. Give any QB that kind of time and it doesn’t matter who is playing defense, they’re going to get burned.
PS, I don’t think Vegas is going to take BYU again this year if they don’t have to. They’re nuts if you ask me. Who else will fill the stadium like BYU, other than Utah maybe?
Voting Stanford ahead of Oregon would be silly. They’re a 3-loss team for crying out loud! C’mon man.
Markell-
I am not sure how USC can be ranked ahead of us in the BCS Poll when in every other poll (BCS & non-BCS) we are ranked ahead of them (us & SC): AP: 19/22; Coaches: 18/21; Harris: 18/20; CBS Sports.com 120: 17/NR.
I have an even better question; does anyone think we could beat any of the 7-3 teams that Markell mentioned? I don’t think so based on the FSU & TCU games.
GO COUGS!
My answer for you WOODY would be:
It all depends on which BYU team showed up. In my opinion, the best game BYU played all season was against UNLV. The Rebs still had a shot at the time, but BYU came into town and their defense forced turnovers and pressured a veteran QB into making mistakes. The WYO game was good and impressive, though BYU had two weeks to prepare and WYO was still breaking in a rookie 18 year-old QB, which, in this league can’t be very easy. If BYU’s defense shows up, they can compete with anyone in the conference as well as many BCS teams.
In my opinion.
I’ll wait until the last two games’ results to speculate as to where we should be. As for now, I think we’re close enough. We will definitely get the chance to face one of those Pac-10 teams in the bowl.
TCU is indeed a more interesting question. If Texas, Alabama or Florida falter then they’ll get their chance. If not, and Texas and SEC are still undefeated, then they’ll unfortunately be on the outside. Poor Boise St.
GO COUGS (and MWC).
@ Mars:
You put too much stock in the win-loss record of a team. What matters more is how good the team is playing. Case in point: the 2007-2008 New York Giants. They entered the playoffs with a record of 10-6. There were other teams with better records, including the undefeated Pats, and the Giants won the Super Bowl. I know it’s the pros, but it still should matter more how good a team is NOW than how many wins or losses they have. Case in point for this year’s college teams: North Caronlina. Hasn’t been ranked in a long time because they had 3 losses. Well, they are good. If you have seen them play, you know they are very very good and will beat a lot of teams. They are much improved since those 3 loses; USC has some good wins (Ohio State) but they are not the same team now that they were then. They have fallen apart and haven’t finally lost confidence. They are not as good now as their record indicates; Boise State is undefeated. Does that mean they would win a game against LSU or Pitt or GT…or even Oregon? I doubt it; New Mexico is winless. Lots of people say they are the worst team in the nation. Really? From what I saw on Saturday, they could beat tons of teams like Rice, Troy, San Jose State, Tulane, Washington State…and CSU
The 1988 49ers went 10-6 (they were 6-5 at one point) & they went on to win the Super Bowl that year. I do not think that we could beat SC but then again, miracles happen.
