    Heaps, Hoffman, Van Noy, Stout, and Mahina will all be seniors this year. Can you say National Championship?

    The NEWS here is that is UNLIKELY, I repeat very Unlikedy, that Utah will be on Our schedule in 2013. Remember, you heard it first right here. Why Not? Well, it’s not because Holmoe and Hill can’t put together the details. The fact is Utah State is also on Utah’s schedule (for several years actually). For Utah, it’s important to have better regional balance especially for recruiting. Scheduling 2 teams in Utah does not do it for the Utes. I believe this points to a Texas team instead of the Cougars. One of the new WAC teams ie UTSA or North Texas may be better fit for the Red and White and what they are trying to accomplish, and this would solidify their Texas recruiting pipeline as well. It makes too much sense for the Utes to overlook. The Result….The BYU – Utah rivalry will be a victim of the PAC-12 expansion and we will have to work even harder to fill our schedule. This is a big loss for us and Utah too. Hope I’m wrong.

    Brett,
    Why aren’t we seeing any games scheduled with the service academies? I thought for sure we would start hearing rumors of scheduling series in discussion with both Army and Navy.

  • Brett Richins (author) said:

    @BigCougar,

    The service academies are pretty much booked through 2020 and Tom has to focus on the here and now. Also, with Navy joining the Big East they will no longer be independent and therefore more difficult to schedule.

    Army is also playing a more easy schedule and does not want to increase the number of hard teams it plays.

    Guess this shows who really has the stronger teams, Big Ten compared to the PAC 12. At least their not worried about adding a tough team to their schedule, like a another team that has the same color of RED just up the road! Maybe this independent thing isn’t so bad after all, there are probably plenty of teams that will need to upgrade their schedules if they want a shot at the National Champship. This ought to be a fun game.

    If BYU does schedule an FCS team, they need to pick one that is ranked very high in that division either Montana or Montans State, just not Idaho State please not them. who are some other FCS teams that are consistently ranked in the top 5?

    Word has it Idaho & New Mexico State are possibly in the works yet again (which sucks!). I also hope this is the absolute last year BYU plays Utah State in Logan.

    Any idea which team will be the 12th game and if BYU will play a 13th game, who it will be, and whether both the 12th and 13th games will be home games?
