Sorry Locker you can’t do that…

September 7, 2008

Rule nine, section two in the referee rule book states; that a player cannot throw the ball over their head at any point during the competition and should immediately return the ball to the official after the score.  Sorry Washington, but it should be comforting to know that your officials knew the rule book so well.  Maybe the Pac-10 officials really are better then the MW officials?  Lets hope that UCLA brings the same crew with them next week.

And as far as the announcers are concerned, get some new material.  We are tired of hearing phrases like, “good for a Mountain West team”, or that our players “aren’t as athletic as the Pac-10 players”.  The fat dude that announced the Washington game was getting on my every nerve.  All you have to do is give credit where credit is due, that’s it.  Both teams played well, the officials missed a lot of call.  One official showed a little character and dignity and called an unsportsmanlike foul when he saw it.  Good for you zebra.  I will tell Washington the same thing my coaches told me when I was crying about the refs.  “The refs don’t lose games, they get paid no matter what.”  But in this case it was a good call, at the worst possible time for the Huskies.  Man Tyrone, this really is not your year.  Good Luck at your next job.  Hope BYU isn’t on their schedule.

I’m with you 100%. In my eyes, this game was won on belief. BYU believed it could and should win. Washington and their players were scared of losing and believed they deserved to lose. When the chips were down, only Locker believed he deserved victory.

Quinn, I have noticed a few places where you state that our defensive players, particularly our secondary, “need to make plays. I agree. What do you think is the reason they are not making plays?

great post. Amen on all points.

What I found interesting is that the announcers kept making all these comments about how UW should be able to push a MWC team around, yet it was UW that was losing players left and right all game. I don’t remember any BYU players being carried off the field or needing the trainers, yet UW had five or six guys go down. And what was with all the cramps? Don’t they know about pickle juice up in Seattle?

I was thinking the same thing about the commentary. How any times did they basically say how lucky BYU was to get a chance to play a team from the mighty PAC 10. Quinn you were spot on with your comments.

Cramps occurred because of a lack of conditioning. Their coaches are trying to take it easy on them during the week so they are healthy for the game. Coaches walk a fine line, but it is better to over train during camp which will better prepare an athlete for the game. That’s what coach Mendenhall does and as you saw, zero cramps.

I agree about the announcers, they were very annoying. I was waiting for them to say, “Max Hall is a very good athlete, he could easily be third string on a PAC-10 team.”
