Stewart Mandel give a concise breakdown of why he believes the Utes are over rated. So before everyone bows to the almighty Utah radio gods, please read this story.

Will dramatics be enough to keep the Utes winning streak alive? You make the call, and next week we’ll look at why BYU can win.

“Don’t give undefeated Utah too much credit.”

Agreed, just as I felt we were a touch overrated when we were highly ranked. For how “tough” our conference has been this year, our nonconference wins (as a conference) haven’t been overly impressive. Goodness, Wyoming beat Tennessee? Who’d have thunk.

We (the MWC) have beaten the likes of Arizona, Arizona St, Oregon St, Michigan, Washington, UCLA, Stanford, Iowa St, Houston, SMU, Tennessee.

Most years, this is an impressive resume. But this year these teams are struggling (Oregon St and Arizona are the only teams with a winning record and Stanford is 5-5).

The MWC has lost to: Tulsa (New Mexico), Navy (AF), Cal Poly (SDSU), Nevada (UNLV) and San Jose St (SDSU).

It would have been better if we had our game against Nevada this year or even the Tulsa series that we just ended.

But, no one can predict these scheduling ups and downs. The bottom line is to go out and beat whoever is on your schedule. If it happens to be Oklahoma, so be it. But, don’t lay an egg against Toledo, Appalachian St or Northern Illinois, either!

You forgot the TCU loss to Oklahoma.

Quinn… I know the advertisements keep you alive but can’t you tell google to keep the red crap to themselves?

I’m addicted to your blog… i check at least twice a day. Keep it up.

I have no control over google ads. The funny thing is when that ads comes up I make zero money, so it sucks both ways.

The Utes screw up everything ;)

The Utes are not as good as they think. I just don’t see BYU losing to them on the 22nd. The Utes are over confident and prime to be beat.

I know I am a dye hard BYU fan, but the Cougs are better and on the up swing. The TCU loss hurt and woke the team up.

    Gunny Out.

Go to Google Adsense and go to the help section. There is an article written about how to block competitor websites.

I think the correct response is that the Cougars “may” win nov. 22 but to do it they will need to be playing the kind of defense that can make at least one one stop every three series.
That might be the key…look for this one to be a basketball score….I’m betting the over in Vegas.

    Quinn,

I recently found out about your website and love it. Thanks much! However, I am worried about going through withdrawals when football season ends. What will you talk about during the off-season?

    Best,

    Jake

He didn’t show much love for the cougs either. He has them at 19. I think that is the lowest I have seen them ranked.

The best indicator for victory in college football shows the BYU-Utah game is a near toss-up (keep in mind, it also shows the BYU-AFA game as a near toss-up).

Utah hasn’t faced an Offense as talented & efficient as BYU’s. BYU will NOT have 6 drives inside the Utah 25 & come away with only 10 points, unless BYU has a turnover fest.

The BYU-Utah game hinges on BYU’s ability to stop the Utah O and turnovers, IMO. Utah has shown inconsistency on Offense, and BYU’s defensive philosophy should take advantage of that, unless they give up bit plays.

I believe that it will come down to the wire, and the team that gets the ball on O with at least 90 seconds left will win by scoring with less than 15 to go.

Utah is in the same ranking as BYU was early in the season, and we didn’t hear anyone saying they where overrated then. So why now is Utah overrated when we have wins over Oregon State, Air Force, and TCU?…..
I do agree though that Ohio State is better.

Remember 34-31? I think that’s what we’re in for again this year, but I’m not sure which team comes out on top. I’ll give the offensive nod to BYU, the Defensive Nod to Utah, and the Special Teams also to Utah. What that means is that we need to do something special/different/game changing to win this because 2/3 Units are more consistent on Utah’s side. That being said, Individuals, not stats determine the outcome of the game. If BYU can BRING IT, and gang tackle and assault Johnson then Our D will tip the scales.

    Andy-

There are still two pollsters that have BYU UNRANKED (including the San Jose State beat writer, who hasn’t changed his tune all season long). So no, Mandel isn’t the worst.
