What Needs to Happen Against UNI…
Of coarse we need to win but we also need to get some of the back-up players some playing time. During fall camp players get an opportunity to show the coaches they are capable of making plays. Now they need to make all those practices, and lifts translate to the field. By getting the second and third string guys some playing time it will give them some much needed confidence and also give the coaches a chance to see their players in real game situations. You would be amazed to know that there are players that show all the promise in the world in practice and in the weight-room and then you get them on the field and they are like a deer in head lights.
A few players that could benefit from some do or die, between the white lines without a coach, time are:
QB- Gaskins needs as much time as he can get. Plus we need to get Max out of the game to insure that he stays healthy for the whole year. It could also be good to experiment with some of those option formations. This will give the upcoming opponents more to prepare for and diversify our own offensive game plan.
TB- Diluigi needs to get some carries because he could prove very important down the stretch. Harvey is great but he takes a lot of hits. Plus Diluigi, could be a change of speed making Harvey that much more effective.
FB- Fui needs to get back to doing what he did two years ago. Breaking tackles, arms, legs and whatever gets in his way.
Offensive line- The line is talented so getting the back-ups involved is very important. This could make the transition in the future very easy. Also those guys take a lot of punishment during the year, so letting them sit out would be great. It could also give a young guy needed experience in case of injury.
WR- White, Chambers, Ashworth, and Hofoka need to get adjusted to the college game. They need to learn from the whole experience. Strengthening this group will put the cougars in a better position as guys get hurt. These guys could also spell the starters; rest will allow for a fresh potent attack early, late and in-between.
TE- Pitta and George are good, but who is behind them. Yeah I don’t know either. Lets find someone to be the third guy, and the future. Lets see if that freshman from Bingham can play.
Defensive line- These guys rotate a lot, but having a few more bodies is always a plus. Mosesa Fokieti needs to play a lot to get him back to his juco days. Also it would be good to get Putnam in the mix.
LB- There are still questions here, and I think a battle will wage throughout the first few games. Bauman and Doman have played in a lot of games but they could be outshined by Ah You. Nixon could use the rest and Vic needs the experience. Also Clawson could use so game time snaps. The outside backers are not deep so getting the young guys experience is important.
DB- This group needs the most on field work. None of them have played significant minutes, and we need to learn about a few of the guys in back-up rolls. Kellen and Tafuna will get their chance but we also need to see what Rich can do. I would also like to see Bradley and Pittman on the field. I would also like to see Coach Hill mix up the rotation and play different guys together. They still need to find the best possible combination. (back-ups and starter need to play well to either move up or they may not get another chance)
Kicker- They will both get a chance, who is going to win the job. It should be interesting.

Hey Quinn, nice blog. I am a friend of your brother, Doug. Got the link and I like it. Loved you comment about Fui, saw him at Arizona two years ago where he literally was breaking arms and legs, would love to see it again. Being in Pasadena, Arizona, BC and Notre Dame the last few years have been disappointing, home our road woes come to an end in Seattle this year. Keep up the blog, love reading it.

Gooch! Absolutely love yer take on things. Awesome to see a diff viewpoint! You’ve got a sweet blog goin. Hope you don’t mind but I added it to my blog as I’ll def be reading yours now on a regular basis.
C’mon, Gooch! I’m disappointed.
The 3rd string TE is Kaneakua Friel, and the coaches are pretty high on him.
The “Freshman from Bingham” is Austin Holt, and he’s on a mish, so we won’t be able to see what he’s got for a couple of years still!
