Why Ben Olsen left BYU…
1. BYU always has great offensive lines, and He wanted to develop his upper body by picking himself off the ground repeatedly on Saturday afternoons. You know… make the body beach ready.
2. He wanted to participate in UCLA’s annual underwear run. All they had at BYU was the Rex Lee run, and the race for the cure.
3. He liked the dark blue helmets, with the gold stripe down the middle. Plus, the stretched Y disgusted him.
4. He Just knew that the woman he wanted to marry was in sunny California, not at a school where every LDS girl dreams of going.
5. I guess Kehl wasn’t a very good roommate.
6. His philosophy on throwing the ball differed from Coach Anae’s. Coach Anae would of asked him to throw the ball 35-45 times a game, and no quarterback wants to do that. He instead wanted to establish the run game, to slow the game down.
7. He would be more likely to play in the NFL if he went to UCLA. BYU just hasn’t had enough quarterbacks get drafted and have success in the NFL. But, UCLA had Cade McNown.
I could go on for days, but there are more important thing to talk about.

Number 5 is just funny
As an Olsen myself, I would just like to let it be known that it is in fact Ben OlsOn, not OlsEn. I don’t want anyone to think I’m related to that mess.
You forgot this one:
8. Ben didn’t want to be bothered with being so far from his Daddy. Living so far away was just too hard for poor Benny.
How about adding: He fell so in love with the Western Canadian people on his mission he had to go the a university with a larger western Canadian population base than BYU.
Number one is my favorite – hilarious. He was actually in my stake in California when I was in high school. I never met him though. But come on, when we have Max Hall, when was Ben ever going to get play time?
He wanted to be closer to his mama because he knew he couldn’t take a hit without being injured.
Daddy wouldn’t let his boy play for Bronco, because Bronco wanted him to earn it. Big Ben never had to earn anything. His dad even paid off his converts he got on his mission.
10. Knowing the fragile nature of his feet, he decided it would be best to be near UCLA’s hospital each time he broke a bone in his foot during his five step drop.
11. His future was more secure at UCLA. He was sure that he’d get his reps, and be done with football forever. BYU might have ruined his plans to spend his life coaching little league by putting him on a good team and getting him drafted.
He made a decision and has to live with it so let us take the higher ground and wish him the best. We all know the BEST would be here at BYU but let us show others that we have a little more class even when people chose to do something that the rest of us might see as the wrong thing to do. Seeing what UCLA is doing now I am sure he has had second thoughts which very possibly may be his own private hell.
